WT Athletics Community The WT Crew Team will be competing in the Head of the Ohio Regatta this weekend. This is one of the largest Regattas in the country and it’s happening in Pittsburgh this Saturday and Sunday. The team will be racing with the SCRC all day on Sunday. This is the first of three Nationally known Regattas the team will be competing at this fall. The other two are in Philadelphia and Virginia. WT fans can come out anywhere along the Allegheny River between the 31st St Bridge and downtown on the North shore to cheer them on. Other viewing areas are on any of the bridges between 31st St and the Point. The Girls Tennis team has qualified for the WPIAL 2A Team Championships, and open the tournament in the first round Tuesday at 3 PM at Blackhawk High School in Beaver Falls PA. The Boys and Girls Soccer Teams both had impressive victories Saturday of Freedom in WPIAL Soccer at CMU. The WT Advancement Team had face painting and a food truck at the event. The Boys beat Freedom, who sits at the top of Section 1A, 2-0. The Girls also beat the defending WPIAL champs 2-0. It was a great day to be a BEAR!

Just a reminder that tomorrow (Saturday 9/28) is our WT Athletics Tailgate at the CMU Soccer Field. Our US Boys Soccer Team will play Freedom in a huge 1A game at noon. The US Girls Soccer Team will take on the defending 1A WPIAL Champs (Freedom) at 2:00. There will be a tailgate sponsored by our Advancement Department. Please keep in mind that this is our first game at CMU, and we want to establish a cooperative working relationship with them. They have asked that there be no food and beverage brought inside the fence tomorrow. The game can be viewed outside the fence and there are picnic tables where the food truck will be. Also, seating is limited, so feel free to bring blankets and/or chairs for the lawn areas. Go Bears !!!!

Another Shut Out for WT Girls Soccer
Girls Varsity SoccerOn Monday, WT girls played Riverview (currently 2nd place in our section) and came out with a decisive 3-0 win. This was a vital win on our road to playoffs and seedings for that post-season time. Goal scorers include seniors, Marghe Memoli and Emily Tea (assisted by Jessie Kaufmann and Nora Coen-Pirani) and sophomore, Avi Keller (assisted by Mathilda Yang).

Girls Varsity TennisCongratulations to both of Winchester Thurston tandems in today's WPIAL Section Doubles Tournament. The pair of Junior Co-Captain Marann Buckanovich and Freshman Fiona Kamin reached the finals before falling to Oakland Catholic, while the duo of Senior Co-Captain Elena Clark and Freshman Hannah Albert attained the semifinals before losing to South Park in the third-place match!! Fiona and Marann qualified for next week's WPIAL Doubles Tournament.

Girls Varsity SoccerThe Bears fought hard for another section win last Monday evening against Greensburg Central Catholic, with a final score of 6-0. Senior, Marghe Memoli, had her second hat trick of the season assisted by freshman, Nancy Cao (1), and sophomore Jessie Kaufmann (2). The other three goals were scored by sophomore Avi Keller (assisted by Derya Tonguz), sophomore Jessie Kaufmann (assisted by Marghe Memoli), and sophomore Mathilda Yang (assisted by senior Nora Coen-Pirani). The defense and senior keeper, Maeve Dever, kept the Centurions out of their goal keeping a clean sheet for the game. Next week, the Bears take on Apollo-Ridge at Graham Field, so come out and support your team on Monday, September 23rd at 3:30 for another hopeful section win for the season!

It was a close match, with freshman Anya Mahtani playing three sets and a tiebreaker and doubles team Lucy Bair and Raghad Hassan winning 6-4 4-6 6-3. WT has now won nine out of eleven matches! Go bears!

The Bears were led with a hat trick from senior, Marghe Memoli (attaining her 7th goal of the year so far), a goal from senior, Nora Coen-Pirani, a goal from sophmore, Jessie Kaufmann, and concluded with a goal from sophmore, Avi Keller. We are on the road next week with another section game on Monday battling GCC's Centurions and a JV match against Moon the following day.

Girls Varsity SoccerIn a battle with one of our section competitors, Springdale, the Bears ultimately lost 4-0. Although we lost, we picked our heads up, and pulled it together in the second half to keep that half scoreless. We will see them again later in the season and hope to come back stronger!
