WT Crew Athletes Shine at the Cincinnati Sculling and Collegiate Regatta

Posted on 05/26/2026

Winchester Thurston athletes competed in the Cincinnati Sculling and Collegiate Regatta in Batavia, OH on April 12. Steel City Rowing Club sent 20 athletes, including 14 WT students.  After a long winter season of indoor training and conditioning, this was the first race of the spring season, and offered our athletes a benchmark as they prepare for the Midwest Junior Championship in May. As an added challenge, our long Pittsburgh winter and the high flow rate on the Allegheny River had only allowed for a couple of on-water practice days in 2026 before this race.

Winchester Thurston Athletes medaled in three events: Kavi Singh (‘27) and Yalkin Kaynar (‘27) won gold in the Men’s HS 2x; Luisa Kuehn (‘29) won silver in the Women’s HS 2x with Taylor Buccicone of Franklin Regional Sr. HS; Oliver Jacobs (‘29), Tyler Collinge (‘29), Teddy Glass (‘29), and Cohen Crossley (‘30) won silver in the Men’s U16 4x+ with Carter Hutchison (Coxwain of Allderdice HS). Several WT athletes have aspirations to qualify for the National Championships in June, and this event was a good measuring stick to show how far their dedication and training had taken them, and how much improvement they still need to make before the end of the season.

Remaining spring crew events
May 2 - Indianapolis Sprints, Indianapolis, IN
May 16 - Midwest Jr Championships, Batavia, OH
June 11-14 - US Rowing Jr National Championships, Sarasota, FL (For qualifying athletes)
